Former mayor Ivy arrested afternight overnight standoff in Narayanganj

Former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy was arrested from her residence in the city early Friday morning, reports UNB.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Nasir Uddin said Ivy was detained from her Deobhog residence, known as 'Chunka Kutir', around 5:45am in connection with multiple charges, including murder.
Tensions had run high throughout the night as news of an impending police raid spread. Around 11pm on Thursday, a police team from Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station arrived at Ivy's home, prompting hundreds of her supporters to gather in protest.
In response, her supporters blocked at least four roads in the area to prevent police access. Loudspeaker announcements from nearby mosques urged people to gather in front of Ivy's house in solidarity, intensifying the standoff.
Speaking to her supporters from inside her home during the standoff, Ivy said: "Tell them [the police] that I will not leave home at night. If they want to arrest me, they must come during daylight hours."
Despite her resistance, senior police officers entered the residence early in the morning and took her into custody.
OC Nasir stated that Ivy was arrested in connection with several pending cases, including murder charges. Ivy, however, claimed that the police failed to show her an arrest warrant and called on her supporters to remain calm.
