Dhaka’s rail link with southern regions disrupted as train derails at Faridpur

Train operations between Dhaka and the southern region have remained suspended since Friday night following the derailment of the Khulna-bound Jahanabad Express at Bhanga Bamon Kanda Junction in Faridpur, reports UNB.
One carriage and the train's engine veered off the tracks shortly after departing Bhanga around 9:10pm, halting services on key routes including Dhaka–Khulna, Dhaka–Benapole, and Dhaka–Rajbari, said Sumon Baroi, assistant rail station master at Bhanga Junction.
The derailment was caused by unauthorised signal changes made by point man Nazrul Islam, who has since been suspended, officials confirmed.
"We've found evidence of his fault. A three-member probe committee has been formed," said Hasina Khatun, Pakshi divisional transport officer.
Relief trains from Rajbari and Khulna were dispatched to the site, where efforts to clear the tracks are underway using cranes and railway personnel.
No casualties were reported. Train services are expected to resume by Saturday noon, authorities said.
All stranded passengers managed to leave the area overnight using alternative transport, added Khairuzzaman Shikdar, in-charge of the junction.
