How was Khaleda Zia’s last 43 years?

Khaleda Zia entered politics by joining the BNP as an activist on January 13, 1982.

She is the wife of the late Ziaur Rahman, the founder of  BNP and former president of Bangladesh.

Khaleda was elected as the country's first female prime minister in 1991 after the fall of the autocratic Ershad government.

On February 8, 2018, she was sent to jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.

The former prime minister has been under house arrest since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. 

After the fall of Hasina's regime, President Mohammed Shahabuddin ordered Khaleda Zia's release from house arrest.
