Nusraat Faria’s arrest ‘embarrassing’: Farooki

The arrest of Nusrat Faria has become an embarrassing incident for the interim government, said the interim government's Adviser on Cultural Affairs Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.
"Our government's task is to prosecute the real offenders of July. Regarding indiscriminate cases, our clear stance is that no one will be arrested unless initial investigations prove their involvement," he said in a Facebook post.
This case against Faria has been ongoing for a long time.
"From the government's side, I had not seen any initiative to arrest her before the investigation was completed. But this incident occurred right after she went to the airport. Perhaps these incidents happened due to over-nervousness following the anger over former Awami League President Abdul Hamid's foreign trip," he added.
The adviser also mentioned that a similar incident also occurred a few days ago with the wife of Barrister Andalib Partha. These incidents are in no way justifiable, he said.
Nusraat was detained by immigration police from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while trying to leave for Thailand on Sunday, reports UNB.
She was then arrested by Bhatara police and later transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) for interrogation.
She was sent to jail on Monday morning after being produced before a Dhaka court in connection with an attempted murder case, the news agency adds.
