Two dead, several injured after Mexican navy ship strikes Brooklyn bridge

At least two people were killed and 19 injured after the Mexican Navy sailing ship Cuauhtémoc collided with the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed, according to a CNN report.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mayor Adams said: "At this time, of the 277 on board, 19 sustained injuries, 2 of which remain in critical condition, and 2 more have sadly passed away from their injuries."
Law enforcement sources told CNN that the two deceased victims had fallen from one of the ship's masts. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but were later pronounced dead.
Following the incident, the vessel was relocated to Pier 36 in Manhattan, officials confirmed.
Preliminary statements from city authorities suggested that "mechanical issues" may have contributed to the collision.
However, officials have stressed that the cause remains under investigation and that details are still emerging.
The Cuauhtémoc, a tall training ship operated by the Mexican Navy, was in New York as part of an international voyage when the incident occurred.
