Upgrading Ctg Port crucial to strengthen country’s economy: CA

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday said upgrading the Chattogram Port is crucial to increase the port's capacity and strengthening the country's economy as this port is the heart of our economy, reports BSS.
"If the port facilities can be ensured, investors will come here," CA said at a meeting on the NCT-5 premises of Chittagong Port.
Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain and Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman also spoke on the event.
Yunus said Chattogram Port must be developed into one of the world's best ports to transform the country's economy.
"To enhance the port's capacity, its management must be handed over to the world's top port operators," he said.
He also added that if the port management is handed over to top global port operators, they will introduce modern technologies, creating more job opportunities for Bangladeshi people.
"The port is currently small; its capacity must be expanded to a global scale," the head of the interim government said, adding that without developing the port, it would be nearly impossible to transform the national economy.
The chief adviser also visited different sections of the port and observed its operations firsthand.
He arrived in his hometown of Chattogram this morning for the first time since assuming office as the head of the interim government.
